All Row houses that go by street addresses were invited in autumn quarter 2022 by their neighborhood councils to propose new names for themselves. We are very excited to announce the new names for those houses that submitted proposals:

Current Name

New Name

Description

620 Mayfield (Neighborhood N)

The Warehaus

It’s fun, it’s irreverent, and alludes to the house’s history as “Haus Mitt,” the former name of the house.

650 Mayfield (Neighborhood A)

Neptune

Neighborhood A’s Row Houses are now Mars, Neptune and Pluto, and the neighborhood also includes the Sally Ride house, named after the greatest astronaut of all time, establishing a cohesive space-themed identity for the neighborhood.

610 Mayfield (Neighborhood T)

Toussaint Louverture House

In a nod to the house’s former name “French House,” the new name honors a courageous political leader of non-European descent who successfully turned a slave revolt into a revolutionary movement that resulted in Haitian independence from France.

Residential Education will be working with campus partners to make changes to university systems and signage so these names are in place at the start of autumn quarter 2023. We anticipate any other houses that go by street addresses will have another opportunity to submit a proposal to their council in autumn quarter 2023.
