Taking Care of Ourselves & Each Other

Health & Well-Being

Cedro

Main content start

Cedro is located on the east side of campus, in the community of houses known together as Wilbur Hall. Many in-house activities and “off-the-farm” events are planned throughout the year for both intellectual and recreational purposes. Our goal in Cedro is to not only be a community, but to be a family of lifelong learners, where everyone can openly share their sense of wonder, responsibility, curiosity, and kindness. We support each other through our fears, triumphs, and failures. When you walk through the doors, you know you are home.

Resident Fellows

Kavita Sarin and Dan Wan met in a band as Stanford undergrads (she played the drums, he played the guitar), and are thrilled to be back on the farm as Resident Fellows.

Kavita is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and the quintessential "Stanford lifer." She came to Stanford in 1996 as a freshman in Otero and loved it so much she never left!  During undergrad, Kavita rolled around in the Stanford Judo club, played with policy at Stanford in Washington, interning at the White House and the National Institutes of Health, drummed in a band, and became a techie (majoring in Computer Science). Kavita continued her training at Stanford, earning her medical degree and graduate degree in Genetics. After completing residency in dermatology, she joined the dermatology faculty in 2013. Her academic interests are focused on employing genomics to better understand the development, progression, and treatment of skin cancer. Kavita also directs a specialized Skin Cancer Genetics clinic at the Stanford Cancer Institute. Outside of work, Kavita loves boxing, eating, chasing after her kids and lazing around with Coffee (her dog) and coffee (her drink).

Dan also attended Stanford, where he majored in Biology and wrote for The Stanford Daily. After graduating, he worked as a web applications engineer at OnLink Technologies/Siebel Systems, a counselor at Jefunira Camp, and an elementary school teacher at East Palo Alto Charter School. After earning his JD at UC Hastings, he worked as a patent litigator at Morrison & Foerster LLP and Genentech (by secondment) before joining CBS Interactive as Senior Counsel, Patents and Litigation, where he handles intellectual property litigation and manages CBS's patent portfolio (and enjoys watching all the pilots before they air on TV).

Rounding out the family are our “three” kids — our son Kyle (11), who loves math, solving riddles, and designing platformers on Scratch; our daughter Katelyn (8), who enjoys performing whether it’s playing violin, singing, or dancing; and our dog Coffee, who has never met a person he didn’t lick (like).
