Xanadu -- “the enigma of the row” -- is a 60-person home.

We strive, above all else, to be a community where residents feel comfortable being themselves.

We practice...

  •  Cherishing Thy Neighbor
  • Being a Kid
  • Knowing When to Be an Adult

that together we can cultivate massive amounts of B.D.E. (Barriers Don’t Exist) (except when they should, which is sometimes).

We balance doing smaller house events to strengthen our house community with using the privilege of our beautiful home and prime location to provide for the greater Stanford community.

Information Regarding Mail and Package Delivery

Students living in Row Houses (Upper Row, Lower Row, Clusters 1, 2, or 3/Cowell) are strongly encouraged to follow the directions for the mail and package process provided on the Mail Delivery and Shipping page, as the PO Box address is each student’s official Stanford address and should be maintained during their entire undergraduate career. However, Row residents are also able to have mail packages delivered directly to their Row house by addressing mail and packages to the house's street address. Please be reminded that Student Housing/the University accepts no responsibility for packages sent to/delivered at individual residences.

Additional Community Information

What is the coolest thing about your house & community?

First -- our staff. Our chef, Sonia, is unrivaled in her cooking skill and ability to provide for so many people. Today for lunch we had Surf ‘n’ Turf (steak and salmon) with clam chowder sourdough bread bowls. Our hasher, Irene, is graciously sweet and has a sly sense of humor. Our custodian, also named Irene, will brighten your day whenever you talk to her.
Second, Xanadu brings together 60 people from all walks of campus life. We have gotten to make friends we never would have met otherwise. It’s like a frosh dorm, except we’re more comfortable being ourselves. For some, Xanadu is a favorite hangout spot; for others, it’s a friendly place to eat meals and sleep. The Xanadu experience is flexible.
Third, we have three lounges, three balconies (two of which are R&DE approved), and an arcade-style Pac-Man machine. All right in the middle of the Lower Row.

What makes a successful Xanadu staff member?

A successful staff member makes Xanadu a safe, comfortable, and encouraging home for its residents. They sit at the dining room table with people they don’t know well. They think hard to come up with an event that has never before been tried. They are willing to sacrifice some, but not all, of their outside friend/commitment time in order to contribute to the Xanadu community. Most importantly, they want to be part of an effective team that enjoys working with and supporting one another.

Our house is meaningful to the Stanford community because...

..of our programming diversity. We do all types of community events; in just the past three weeks, we’ve had a home-cooked weekend brunch, a murder mystery dinner, a speed-dating mixer, and a Bob Ross paint ‘n’ sip event. We are an open environment that allows different student groups, especially those that don’t usually host events, to use our spaces.
