The atmosphere of Jerry varies from year to year.... Many residents draw into the house in groups of even numbers, knowing that a majority of the rooms are two-room doubles. Some years residents expect lots of social events (Jerry-hosted all campus parties, happy hours, etc.), and some years residents are pretty low key and prefer occasional study breaks and arts events. It really depends on the year and who gets a good draw number.
However, traditionally Jerry has been a house that has hosted several all-campus parties held by other institutions (ex: annual AEPi party). Because the structure of the house is divided up into 5 "pods" with separate stairwells, it is possible that residents would not take the time to come in the main entrance or convene in the central lounge. So, integrating the pods is a primary goal of Jerry's staff. In the past this has been done by not permitting the same draw group to claim two two-room doubles in the same pod.
The resident chef, Sandy, has been working at Stanford for 30+ years and is absolutely amazing; the house is named after her favorite musician: Jerry Garcia. Also, Jerry is widely considered to be one of (if not the most) beautiful houses on campus owing to its location beside the lake and its 2-story balcony.
Information regarding mail and package delivey
Students living in Row Houses (Upper Row, Lower Row, Clusters 1, 2, or 3/Cowell) are strongly encouraged to follow the directions for the mail and package process provided on the Mail Delivery and Shipping page, as the PO Box address is each student’s official Stanford address and should be maintained during their entire undergraduate career. However, Row residents are also able to have mail packages delivered directly to their Row house by addressing mail and packages to the house's street address. Please be reminded that Student Housing/the University accepts no responsibility for packages sent to/delivered at individual residences.
Additional Community Information
What is the coolest thing about your house & community?
The best thing about Jerry is the diversity of the people who draw into it! Ya gotta visit us to see just how good it is. And the deck is ok too...
What makes a successful Jerry staff member?
If you are really really fun, super duper chill, and mucho excited to work in a summer camp on lake Lag, then you’re a great fit! We’ve also found that successful staff members tend to nonchalantly use the words winklepicker, tittynope, or ratoon at some point in their interview (if ya get what we mean...)
Our house is meaningful to the Stanford community because…
The most awesome people live here! The rest of the row only houses the decently cool people who didn’t draw into Jerry.
