What's Schiff house like?

First, your student staff will be some of the first people you will meet when you arrive, and they are incredible.  They spend a considerable amount of time planning and working to make Schiff an amazing place for you to live.  They are excited to meet you and help you find your place here.  They are a great source for information, resources, care, and fun. We encourage you to match their enthusiasm and warmth.

Second, you can expect to feel welcomed here.  We want to know you and help Stanford not only be a place of incredible intellectual growth, but also a place you can call home.  A place where dormmates turn into friends and friends turn into family members.  This is no easy feat, and it will take all of us trying to make that happen.

Finally, you can expect to grow during your time here.  We believe that a home is both a place to belong and a place to grow.  As a student-driven community, our staff will help create an environment where you feel free to be yourself and will challenge you to change. Our hope is that you are equally committed to showing up as yourself and challenging us.  This takes courage. We want you to “geek-out” with your dorm mates; share your passions, your curiosities, and your perspectives.  We will be one another’s teachers and students.  Schiff is made up of about 90 unique students. Each of us have the responsibility to share and make space for our unique stories.  In doing so, we each play a role in turning a building into a home.

Resident Fellows

The Calverts, 2022.

Jennifer Calvert and Scott Calvert (met during their time in college when they were RAs (feel free to “awww”).  Scott majored in Neuroscience before getting his Master’s in Film Production and Media Arts.  Jennifer got her undergraduate degree in English and started work as a high school teacher for English language learners.  She then received her Master’s in Counseling and her PhD in Educational Leadership and Learning Technology.  Scott and Jenn have lived and worked in Texas, New Hampshire, and Philadelphia (technically, that last one is not a state, but it’s Philly…it can’t be lumped in with Lancaster).  Scott currently works as a video maker, editor and storytelling consultant.  Jenn is the chief of staff to the dean at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

Scott enjoys movies (or “films”—if you’re feeling artsy), comic books (graphic novels), geek collectibles, art, and anything pop culture.  Jenn enjoys building things (especially with LEGO), cooking and reading about organizational behavior, education, sustainability, and generally anything non-fiction.  Together they love spending time with friends, finding great places to eat and exploring the world.
