Neighborhood N Affiliation

You will be affiliated with your neighborhood for the duration of your time as an undergraduate, regardless of whether you are living in your neighborhood, participating in study abroad, or taking a year to explore another neighborhood by living in a theme house.  We believe that the people you meet and the community you build in your neighborhood — in addition to those in your dorm — will be an important part of your Stanford experience, one where you feel known, supported, and cared for throughout your time as an undergraduate and beyond.  The essential purpose of Residential Education (“ResEd”) is to support the integration of student living and learning through the formal teaching, informal learning, and personal support in the residences that is integral to a Stanford education. Your neighborhood is where that happens.

In addition, each neighborhood has its own professional staff, community council, and events, all designed to bring people together, and all available to you as a member of the neighborhood during your undergraduate experience.  You will have the opportunity to play a big role in defining your neighborhood’s culture, and creating and keeping your neighborhood traditions.

Your neighborhood team is so excited to welcome you to campus in a couple of weeks!

Neighborhood Professional Staff

Your Residential Education neighborhood staff team will support you for the duration of your time at Stanford.

  • Your Neighborhood Program Director (NPD) provides administrative leadership to your neighborhood and co-chairs your neighborhood council.
  • Your Resident Director (RD) provides direct student support to you and the other students in your neighborhood.
  • Your Community Coordinator (CC) provides administrative support to the house leadership (Resident Fellows and student staff) in your neighborhood.

You’ll meet these folks along with your Academic Advisor and a wonderful group of Housing and Dining staff in your first few days on The Farm.

Neighborhood Community Council

Your neighborhood community council is the governing board for your neighborhood that coordinates and supports neighborhood programming and provides students opportunities to get involved.

The council coordinates programs like open mic nights and food festivals, and has significant funding to support the program ideas of students.  You can learn more and express interest in getting involved here.

Neighborhood Welcome Events

You’ll have two great opportunities to have some fun and get to know students from your neighborhood, your neighborhood council members and neighborhood professional staff right from the start!  Mark these dates in your calendar, and you’ll get more information when you get your NSO calendar.

Neighborhood N New Student Social: September 20, 7-9 p.m.

  • Come enjoy some snacks, listen to some tunes and play some games with other frosh and transfer students in your neighborhood.

Neighborhood N Welcome BBQ: September 27, 5-7 p.m.

  • Stanford Dining will provide the delicious BBQ, and your neighborhood community council will provide the activities!  This event will bring together all students from the neighborhood, so it is a great chance to get to know some upperclass students.

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Cheryl Brown, Ph.D.
