Cedro is located on the east side of campus, in the community of houses known together as Wilbur Hall. Many in-house activities and “off-the-farm” events are planned throughout the year for both intellectual and recreational purposes. Our goal in Cedro is to not only be a community, but to be a family of lifelong learners, where everyone can openly share their sense of wonder, responsibility, curiosity, and kindness. We support each other through our fears, triumphs, and failures. When you walk through the doors, you know you are home.
Meet the Cedro Resident Fellows
Resident Fellows, or RFs, are Stanford faculty and senior administrative staff who live in apartments or cottages adjacent to student residences and serve as leaders for their communities. Parna is the Associate Vice Provost for Stanford Introductory Studies where she directs the COLLEGE first-year program, the IntroSems program, SoCo (Sophomore College) and AI (Arts Intensive) and Aishwary (“Aish”) is Professor of History and Director of The Democracy Institute at Cal Poly Pomona in Los Angeles, where he also directs The GIFT Project (Global Inquiries in Freedom & Tyranny) and the American Institutions Common Core. Aish and Parna bring to Stanford campus and Cedro their son, Arjun, who is 14. Arjun is a Rubik’s Cuber and a soccer player. As a family, they love to cook, to debate, to travel, to discuss cinema and music, and, to spend time with their cat, Teddy.
Prior to joining Stanford, Parna was a professor in South Asian history at Carleton College in Minnesota. Parna grew up in Honolulu and went to school at Berkeley and University of Michigan.
Aishwary is an intellectual historian and political theorist, compelled by questions of inequality and (non)violence and of the future of democracy as a moral and political form of which, he believes, the modern university is a singular example. You can hear him on his podcast Mutant: Dialogues at the End of Democracy. Aish grew up in India and went to school at the University of Cambridge.
