Mirrielees sits near Gerhard Casper Quad, Vaden, and other East Campus landmarks and offers a friendly environment a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the main campus. The ideal Mirrielees resident will develop both self-sufficiency and interdependence through the apartment-style living. With support from RAs, Mirrielees actively promotes a great sense of community —it’s geared towards the student that is drawn to living a bit more independently while still wanting to experience all the Stanford and the local community have to offer.
Meet the Mirrielees Resident Fellow
Resident Fellows, or RFs, are Stanford faculty and senior administrative staff who live in apartments or cottages adjacent to student residences and serve as leaders for their communities. James (“Jim”) R. Jacobs, MD, PhD joined Stanford in 2016 to become the associate vice provost for student health and wellness and the executive director of Vaden Health Services.
Jim’s faculty appointment is in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and he teaches an IntroSem titled, Secrets, Secrecy, and Lies. Jim’s roles at Stanford are primarily administrative, but he continues to practice medicine every day.
Jim has engineering degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He started his career as a researcher and educator on the faculty at Duke University. He subsequently obtained an MD degree at Duke and is board-certified in emergency medicine. As a physician leader, Jim has served at four universities across the country and spent time as a visiting scholar at the US Department of Homeland Security.
Jim is privileged and excited to be part of the Mirrielees community. For all residents, he wants our Mirrielees home to be a place of relaxation, restoration, and inspiration…plus a bit of fun and a lot of good (and ideally spicy!) food.
