Meet the Murray Resident Fellows (2026-27)
Steven and Ly are honored to serve as Resident Fellows. A memorable highlight for their family came in the Spring of 2025, when Steven taught Psychology in Cape Town, South Africa through the Bing Overseas Studies Program. Outside the classroom, Steven spent his downtime playing board games with locals, while Ly checked off a bucket-list item by earning her scuba diving certification. During this time, their child, Sonny (1) learned how to walk. Sonny now loves kicking a soccer ball, riding his bike, and painting. Their family also includes their friendly dog, Akuma, who never turns down a good belly rub.
Ly earned her Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from the Community College of Vermont, her Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Vermont, and her Master’s in Global Health Policy and Management from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management. She grew up in a low-income household in Vermont and is the first generation in her family to be born in the United States and to pursue higher education. She previously worked at the Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education in the School of Medicine where she led policy initiatives focused on gastric cancer prevention. Ly is passionate about improving health care access, affordability, and quality. In her spare time, she especially enjoys cooking (and eating!) Korean and Vietnamese cuisine, biking, and practicing yoga.
Steven is an Associate Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Center for Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity. His research and teaching focus on the psychological basis of racism. Steven was a first-generation, low-income student, earning his Associate’s at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, his Bachelor’s at New York University, and his Master’s and PhD at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). Steven loves to play board games (his favorites are Terra Mystica, The Great Zimbabwe, and Cloudspire), and he is always looking for people to play (Ly, I’m looking at you).
