Get Involved

Main content start

The best parts of residential life are student-driven. Help plan activities, share your voice in house leadership, and contribute to traditions that make your community unique — getting involved starts right where you live.

Opportunities

Within the residential experience, students will find a number of opportunities to get involved and contribute to their community in dynamic ways, such as: pre-assigning, serving as a student intern or residential student leader, and more. Some of Stanford’s residences provide credit-bearing enrichment opportunities for pre-assignees and residents through residentially-based courses, and some are even open to the whole campus!

Pre-Assignment

Students apply for university theme houses through the Pre-Assignment process. Some of Stanford's on-campus residences feature specialized academic, cultural, social, or leadership programs, while others operate as co-ops, where residents collectively manage cooking and cleaning responsibilities.

Residents of each house on campus can customize their Stanford experience by engaging in what we call Dorm Government‚ or DormGov for short.

Learn About DormGov

Students apply for university theme houses through the Pre-Assignment process. Some of Stanford's on-campus residences feature specialized academic, cultural, social, or leadership programs, while others operate as co-ops, where residents collectively manage cooking and cleaning responsibilities. A core tenet of the housing assignments process is supporting unique residential programs through Pre-Assignment. This allows students to join communities dedicated to exploring a shared topic, lifestyle, or culture within their residence.
