West Florence Moore Hall (West FloMo) is located at 436 Mayfield Ave, near the central campus, and is part of the Florence Moore housing complex. The West FloMo community is an exemplary model of residential diversity. Students living in these houses have the chance to interact with a wide range of peers who live together to create a distinct residential experience.

West FloMo is made up of four individual houses: Gavilan, Loro, Mirlo, and Paloma. Each house has its own unique character and culture that varies quite substantially from year to year. West FloMo residents (fondly referred to as "Flomies") who value the opportunity to define and create their own residential experiences will greatly enjoy the wide potential that is possible to students living in West FloM

The love for West FloMo (“flove”) is evident in the care that we have for our traditions, the growth mindset we work to collaboratively cultivate, and the way we value each member of our community. Located just a short walk from the Tresidder Memorial Union, Stanford Bookstore, Lake Lagunita, and the Row, West FloMo is an ideal location for students who are actively involved in both the academic and social life of the Stanford community.

Meet the West FloMo Resident Fellow

Resident Fellows, or RFs, are Stanford faculty and senior administrative staff who live in apartments or cottages adjacent to student residences and serve as leaders for their communities. Miles Osgood is Communications Manager for the Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford (HCBSS) and a former Lecturer for Structured Liberal Education (SLE), the English Department, and Continuing Studies. Miles received his PhD in English at Harvard University with research focused on twentieth-century literature. He is always excited for students to come by to play board games or pick-up sports, talk about books and movies, or join toddler Sybil and terrier Pico for a walk around Lake Lag.

Miles is a specialist in twentieth-century literature and modern art, with a research focus on the history of Olympic aesthetics and politics. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Slate, and n+1, and he’s been interviewed by The New York Times, NBC Bay Area, and Very Special Episodes. His past undergraduate courses cover “Modern Odysseys” and global short fiction, and he lectures for SLE periodically (over in East Flo) on the avant-garde and Virginia Woolf. In his current role, Miles hosts the HCBSS Podcast and writes the annual newsletter Lekha. Come ask him about events and courses in Buddhist Studies!

Miles has a long history with Florence Moore as a former RA, Resident Tutor, and Lecturer for SLE. As an amateur board-game designer and a lifelong Cardinal fan, he is always excited for a game night or a gameday.
